Philosophy of Historical Sciences Reading Group

stopandthinkWe meet on alternate Tuesdays, 14-15:30 (30 January, 13 February & 27 February), in the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research Seminar Room. We’ll discuss the latest theoretical strands relevant to contemporary historical sciences. Whether it’s the new materialism(s) and the ontological turn, neo-evolutionary theories or methodological questions about fieldwork, these sciences are undergoing a change in the way the past and its ruins are imagined and talked about. Thus, we hope to foster a challenging interdisciplinary dialogue between those working with material culture and/or the past.

Organised by Adrian Currie, Alexandra Ion, and Rune Nyrup.

Lent Term

Session 1: Time & Historicity. 30 January 2018.

Session 2: Interdisciplinarity. 13 February.

Session 3: Historical sciences and the Deep Past. 27 February.
